The Mona Lisa crowd it weeps
Is that a smile ? Or truth that leaks
Like tar from every feathered beak
Into a crows furore
Faces squash against the gate
Where goodness hangs it’s head in wait
And voices scream from later dates
Saying please! No mas! No more!
The keepers smile and greet them each
With white-gloved hands and bottled bleach
And pens to draw a cartoon siege
For happy evermore
Magically every cell phone beeps
A catchy tune of hope and grief
A prize for all who dare to speak
A tattoo ‘please ignore’
The masters mouth , it licks the plate
And watches, smirks, and says ‘how quaint!’
Tomorrows hook such easy bait
A thousand years of laughter
His quill it whips and scoffs and roars
As black sheep bow, and bleat no more
Hooves ablaze, they tip-toe sore
From hot coals of disaster
All that breathes Is
In the game
In the game
All that pleases, fades
Like all the pretty horses, rode away
The red-faced coffee-makers drink
As five-step lives begin to shrink
It’s dangerous to stop and think
When your smile is a monthly rental
Life goals on a sandwich board
Dust covered dreams pinned to the floor
Subscription to an invoice for
The damaged incidentals
Watching hope dance out the door
A curtsy, and la vie l’amour !
It sings, turning your dreams a whore
And yester-years erupting
Some die, some wait to die, some plead
Some read and read and breathe and read
While kids climb smiling in their trees
The rest of us see nothing
All that breathes is
In the game
In the game
All that pleases, fades
Like all the pretty horses,
And all the lovers lights, they fade
The hero’s Rubber teeth they grit
At the cactus necktie, tightly fit
With thirst for something true he spits
Just blood, hard luck, and laughter
Freedoms’ string upon the bow
That aims and aims and won’t let go
The target moves the peace signs glow
Its buy one, get one after
‘We’re all for sale! It’s all for show!’
Say men that hide and hoard and grow
From crooked soil where evil sows
A seed that can outlast ya
The gardener, the rake, the rain
Now mountains in a giants game
Of dice rolled lives, and sushi trains
And happy ever after
